Going uphill backwards

| July 19, 2011 | 4 Comments

You drive over the crest of one hill, park your car at the bottom of the next hill, put the car in neutral and then the unexplained happens – you travel uphill! Hokey smokes, Bullwinkle! What could be happening in the quaint, little town of Burkittsville, MD? Is it alien activity? Is it a harmonic convergence? Too much beer?

Since we were so close to this ‘spook’ hill we had to visit. After our initial visit, we decided to return the next day and get more scientific about it. How does a car seemingly travel uphill, backwards, with nothing to propel it? These are the important matters of our day, oh Gentle Woodland Folk of the Blogisphere. We brought a ball and a level and we walked the road. It looks uphill. For real. But when you walk uphill it feels like you’re walking downhill. When you bounce or roll a ball, it acts the way a ball acts when traveling downhill. Enough of this shilly-shallying, out came the level. When in doubt, get out the tool with the little bubble. The bubble never lies and the bubble declared the road goes downhill.

Just goes to show- seeing isn’t always believing.

Why the hell are you destroying our fundamental beliefs? Heathen!

OK, that was officially awesome. Why’d you have to get all scientific with the levels? I prefer the ghost story. Though I was confused at first by the deep manly voices (and un-arty car). Had E begun hormone therapy along with the name change? Man, girl, you’re hard to keep up with. Stay gold.

Lol… that was Thomas recounting the tale of the ghosts of Civil War past and my brother Tommy driving his car. The queen was not with us on this trip. We did drive to VA with an art car, but on the day trips my bro drove.

We couldn’t resist figuring the thing out. Thomas is still not convinced, level bubble or not. Yeah, I like that ghost story too.
